The United Nations University cordially invites you to attend the launch of the report of the Commission on Global Security, Justice and Governance. This event will start at 6:30 p.m. on 3 December at UNU Headquarters in Tokyo.
The Commission, which was co-chaired by former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former Nigerian Foreign Minister Professor Ibrahim Gambari and included a dozen other eminent statespersons and intellectuals from around the world, released its report Confronting the Crisis of Global Governance ahead of the United Nations’ 70th Anniversary Summit, with a launch event in The Hague in June 2015.
The report features a focused set of global policy and institutional reform recommendations for collective action on critical issues such as state fragility, the global economy, and the effects of climate change. Most notably, the report highlights the interconnected nature of these global threats, suggesting that the capacity of the current global governance institutions to respond to these challenges has been exceeded.
UNU Rector David M. Malone will moderate a panel of speakers including the Japanese member of the Commission, former Minister for the Environment and for Foreign Affairs, Ms Yoriko Kawaguchi; the Japanese Foreign Policy Bureau’s Ambassador in charge of UN Affairs and Cyber Policy, Mr. Makita Shimokawa; and UNU-CPR Director Mr Sebastian von Einsiedel, who will be discussing the key findings of the report. This will be followed by an interactive session with questions from the audience.
A buffet reception will follow the event, where all audience members are invited to enjoy the food and drinks that will be served while exchanging ideas and making new contacts.
Please note that this event will be in English only; Japanese interpretation will not be provided. Advance registration (by 2 December) is required. Please click on the REGISTER button or the link below to access the online registration page.
